Despite continued rises in house prices the Chancellor has left the threshold for Stamp Duty on residential property unchanged at £125,000 (£150,000 in disadvantaged areas). The cost of an average house in West Midlands is now £172,152 leaving the buyer with a tax bill of £1,721. The buyer of an average detached house at £281,192 faces the 3% rate payable on properties from £250,000 to £500,000 resulting in a bill of £8,457.
